Jeffrey L. Doan
"Forever a Champion"   1986 - 2004

Jeffrey Leonard Doan was born on September 8, 1986 in Viroqua, WI to John and Vickie Doan.  As a son he was appreciative, respectable and loving. As a teammate he was hard-working, cooperative and dependable. As a friend Jeff was extremely personable and his witty comments often made those around him chuckle.  Jeff’s infectious smile immediately radiated any room.

He truly enjoyed time with his friends and family whether playing sports, fishing, shooting pool, deer hunting or just hanging out. He also liked to draw and was developing his skills as an artist. He was all-around a good kid with a fun personality and a bright future.

Jeff loved the game of golf.  As a youngster, he spent countless hours at the Viroqua Hills Golf Course hitting bucket after bucket of practice balls and working to perfect his short game.  Jeff wanted to make golf his life and understood that it would take more than talent to accomplish his goals.  In 2003, as a sophomore, Jeff’s hard work paid off as he won the WIAA Division II State Golf Championship.  Later that year, Jeff finished in the top ten of his first American Junior Golf Association tournament.  He shot the lowest round of the event carding a 67.

Although golf was undeniably his passion, Jeff also enjoyed playing hockey.  Jeff’s older brother, Jason, sparked Jeff’s interest when he introduced him to the game at the age of five.  Like his commitment to golf, Jeff had a tremendous desire to succeed and continuously improve his skills as a hockey player. As the captain of the Bantam team in 2002, he led the Viroqua Thunder to the state tournament, scoring 40 goals and 35 assists during the season. In addition, even though he took time off in 2003 to concentrate on golf, in 2004 he recorded a hat trick in his second game back for the Viroqua High School team.

Jeff passed away on January 15, 2004 between periods of a high school hockey game.  An autopsy report revealed that Jeff had a previously undiagnosed condition called hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, which is commonly known as an enlarged heart. Jeff’s generosity and willingness to help others continues even after his death as he was an organ donor and has contributed to saving and improving the lives of many others.

Jeff was a great kid and he touched the lives of all us who were lucky enough to know him.  Jeff’s legacy will live on forever.
